This year was packed with promising new launches, most of which have stood true to the hype. All car companies, luxury and normal, have rolled out their impressive new four-wheelers. Let’s look at each of those in detail.

Volvo S90

Globally, this car was unveiled in 2020, but covid restrictions caused delays in the India launch. Finally, this year, in June, the country welcomed the facelift version of the Volvo S90. This car replaces the outgoing S80, which was discontinued early in 2022. 
 
The Volvo S90 is based on the coupe concept and gets a chrome grille flanked with full-LED Thor headlights. An elongated passenger cabin makes it to the car's sides to make way for open spaces, and the shoulder line treatment resembles a luxury yacht. 
 
The rear end of this car features a new tail lamp cluster with a Volvo inscription. Notably, this particular variant comes with chrome finishing. 
 
From the inside, this Volvo car gets a leather dashboard with a walnut wood finish. The same is encased on the front console in a single-piece element. The seats get perforated Nappa leather with heating and cooling features. Additional car features include a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, a power-operated tailgate and four-zone air conditioning.
 
In terms of mechanics, the Volvo car gets a Euro 6 compliant 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine providing a power output of 190 hp and 400Nm torque. Eight-speed automatic transmission is also added. One can choose from three driving modes- Eco, Comfort and Dynamic.
 
For safety features, the Volvo S90 gets run off-road protection, emergency brake assist, child booster cushions, lane keeping aid, rear parking camera and more.
 
This Volvo car is currently priced at Rs. 53.5 lakh.

Pravaig Defy

How can we talk about the latest car launches and miss out on an EV? Joining the boom of electric vehicles, Pravaig, a Bengaluru-based startup, introduced its first electric car in the country. While the car has yet to reach the production-ready stage, the prices have been announced.
 
Starting with the design, this car looks very radical and draws some resemblance to Range Rover cars. However, the overall styling language is quite sharp and receives all-LED lighting. The Defy will be available in nine colour options- Anti Flash, Haldi Yellow, Moon Grey, Siachen Blue, Emperor Purple, Bordeaux, Green and Absolute Zero.
 
In terms of range, this electric car features a 90 kWh battery pack with a double electric motor setup. For output, it develops a power output of 402 bhp and 620 Nm torque. Furthermore, the company claims that it takes 30 minutes for the Pravaig Defy to get charged from 0 to 80%.
 
This car is based on the company’s skateboard concept, and the battery is placed in the centre to offer more cabin space. The features list includes a digital instrument cluster, OTA updates and an infotainment system with 5G connectivity.
 
Finally, this electric car will sell for Rs. 39.50 lakh.

Lamborghini Urus S

The Italian luxury automaker made heads turn in 2022 with the launch of the Lamborghini Urus S. It is an entry-level SUV that backs on the company’s most successful model. The company’s CEO shared that this car is mainly for customers who choose the purest forms of luxury, performance and versatility.
 
Starting with the design, the Lamborghini Urus S draws inspiration from the Urus Performante SUV. This includes redesigned bumpers on the front and end, a vented bonnet, a carbon-fibre roof and quad exhaust. In addition, the front skid plates get matte black finishing with stainless steel. 
 
For the interiors, Lamborghini adds dual-tone interior themes for the Urus S with varying stitching and contrast. For features, the luxury SUV gets a digital car key, satellite navigation, and connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
 
For mechanics, this car receives the same 4.0-litre engine that generates a power output of 666 hp and 850 Nm torque. However, the engine is slightly heavier than the one on Perfomante and hence, takes two-tenth additional seconds to pick up. 
 
The pricing of this luxury SUV will range between Rs. 3.15 crores and Rs. 3.43 crores.

MG Astor

The country welcomed this car with open arms after a long wait. It is a mid-sized SUV that expands MG Motors' lineup in the country. Impressively, the MG Astor will get some segment-first features and be the best in class. First, let’s get into more details about the car.
 
Let’s start with the design and styling details. The car’s exterior gets a bold celestial grille adorned entirely flanked LED hawkeye headlamps. A jump shoulder is added on the sides to enhance this car’s sporty appeal, and the rear section gets LED tail lights. MG offers the Astor in four variants- Super, Smart, Sharp and Style.
 
As for the interior, the MG Astor sports an artificial leather interior with a dual-tone theme finished in Sangria red. It also sports a sunroof, an engine start-stop option, 60:40 split seats, rains sensing wipers and much more. Above all, the car also receives i-Smart technology with 80+ connected features. 
 
Finally, coming to the specifications, this MG car is available in two petrol engine options. Firstly, a 1.3 litres 220 turbo engine gives out 138 bhp and 220 Nm output. Alternatively, MG offers a 1.5-litre engine with a power output of 108 bhp and 144 Nm torque. The former is available with a six-speed automatic converter, and the latter gets an eight-speed CVT option. 
 
For pricing, the MG Astor currently sells for Rs. 10.32 lakhs.

Tata Tigor

The updated variant of the much-loved EV entered the Indian market recently. It now gets a 315 km driving range, among many exciting updates. However, Tata Motors has only launched the CNG model of this car as of now.
 
Regarding styling and design, Tata Motors has not made any changes to the car. However, this updated variant has a 26 kW liquid-cooled, IP67-rated battery pack with an electric motor. This powertrain gives out an output of 74 bhp and 170 Nm torque.
 
For features, Tata Motors has again done exceedingly well. The top-spec variant of this car flaunts a dual-tone dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system. The same comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Additionally, the updated Tata Tigor's features list includes a digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, multi-modern regen, dual airbags and more.
 
The Tata Tigor is available in four variants- XE, XT, XZ and XZ+. The prices start from Rs. 12.49 lakhs and go up to Rs. 13. 75 lakhs. Currently, the Indian market has no direct rivals for the Tata Tigor.
