Bajaj -KTM with an intention of launching Electric Bikes or Scooters near 2022

The world will be no place to live if emissions rates are not controlled. With the current pace of increment in emissions, the people in the world are likely to suffer in the near future. So the trend of manufacturing EVs (Electric Vehicles) around the globe is developing. Many automotive brands had already launched and sold numerous units. So it would not be surprising to see EVs outnumbering vehicles powered by IC engines on roads.

KTM - Bajaj is well renowned for its bikes powered by IC engines for a decade in India. The partnership had worked well up till now and now will be tested in EVs. In a recent interview, Rakesh Sharma, The Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, stated that both companies are together working on electric vehicles and also concentrating on developing the high-end electric-powered motorcycle. Both companies have been found testing their prototypes of which images are found on the internet. The image of KTM’s E-duke has emerged which clearly implies that the e-version of Duke is somewhere there in the near future. Moreover, the Bajaj has been seen working on e-scooters which would be sold under the brand’s Urbanite Company. The name of Bajaj’s e-scooter is expected to be Chetak.

Both the companies are working out these under project name PTW (Powered Two Wheeler). The KTM’s e -motorcycles will be manufactured at the Bajaj’s facility at Pune and under the PTW project a 48-volt electric platform with a power output range of  4PS to 13PS which will be used in a scooter, mopeds, and lighter mopeds. And the vehicles are likely to be priced cheap.

Few brands are ahead of Bajaj and KTM. For instance, Harley Davidson has launched Livewire, which is the only high-end EV in the market. Moreover, the Emflux is about to launch its electric ride in 2020 which is prior to Bajaj and KTM. Although KTM has got one electric ride named Freeride E-XC, it is yet to go out for sale in Indian Market, the ride as far now is only available in Europe in 7500 Euros. So, Bajaj -KTM needs to be in a hurry and launch their EVs ahead of 2022.
