Key Points

  • E20 NXT is Mahindra’s upcoming Electric hatchback which will be the successor of Mahindra e20.

  • Yet to arrive on Indian streets.

  • Expected Ex-Showroom Price Rs. 6.0 lakhs for the base variant.

Mahindra Electric has facelifted current electric hatchback, Mahindra e20 and has also added a suffix, NXT. The facelift brings changes in areas of looks which may at first glance seem subtle but later definable on closer inspection and too in driving range of the EV on a full charge. The e20 NXT was first adored by spectators at the 2018 Auto-Expo held at Noida where no final launch date of the upgraded EV was disclosed by the company but it is expected sooner, before the end of 2019.

Cosmetic alterations

Facelift means enhancements in looks and new versions, no matter which product is chosen, are likely to face derogations if it doesn’t meet expectations in terms of looks. The Mahindra e20 NXT was seen to have LED headlamps which resemble Mahindra’s future concepts and was also spotted showcasing funkier alloy wheels which added to its refreshing style.

The colour was all the same, at outside as well as inside and of white. The rear bumper was seen to hold a plate which can be altered with RTO’s number plate.

Moreover, the side bottoms were seen holding side skirts which added to the sportiness of the EV.

For interiors, Mahindra made few changes at the dashboard layout which now have a larger tablet-like touchscreen infotainment system at the centre which is expected to come with all kinds of connectivity options like Bluetooth, USB, AUX, etc.

Motor and power

The upcoming Mahindra e20 NXT will have 3 phase induction motor that produces a power of 40bhp at 3500 rpm and maximum torque of 91 Nm at 2000 rpm. For transmitting power and motion it will use a direct drive transmission system to channelize power. The fuel in the form of charge will be stored in 72V battery which will extend the range of the previous model. The range is speculated to be around 140 KM on a single complete charge.

The massive battery is said to get charged in 90 minutes if charged using a fast charger or else it will take 9 hours if normal charger is used. The top speed of the EV will be somewhere near 80 Kmph.

Safety

Expecting ABS and EBD is justifiable considering the recent trend in the automobile sector of adding those even in budget cars and so the upgraded EV is likely to have both. No doubts on the provision of Airbags, the EV is going to have airbags and that is for sure.
