Hyundai recently launched the next generation of Grand i10 and named it as Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a mid-sized hatchback which will directly rival the most popular Maruti Suzuki swift on Indian streets. Both cars come in petrol and diesel variants and in both manual and automatic transmission systems. The petrol engines from both cars comply with BS6 norms and their diesel engines are BS4 compliant. Both cars produce a nearly equal amount of power and torque making the selection tougher for the buyer while purchasing.

Petrol engines:
The petrol engines on Hyundai Grand i10 Nios are of type Kappa VTVT and that of Swift are VTVT. The petrol engines of both hatchbacks are BS6 compliant and are available in both automatic and manual transmission system. The Hyundai grand i10 Nios and Swift both come with 1197 CC 4 cylinder petrol engines which produce power of 81.86 bhp and 81.80 bhp respectively. Both the petrol engine can pull the car with a top speed of 165 Kmph. The Grand i10 Nios-petrol can give mileage of 20.7 Kmpl while Swift-petrol is slightly better in terms of mileage which is around 22Kmpl.
Diesel engines:
Both cars slightly differ when it comes to diesel engine variants. The diesel engine on Grand i10 Nios is of 1186 CC 3 cylinder U2 CRDi Diesel engine while that on swift is 1248 CC 4 cylinder DDiS 190 engine. Both engines can be coupled with automatic as well as manual transmission system. Both the cars with diesel engines produce nearly the same amount of power that is of 74 bhp. The Grand i10 Nios – diesel gives the mileage of 26.2 Kmpl and Swift diesel yields mileage of 28.4 Kmpl. The Swift diesel can reach a top speed of 170 Kmph while Grand i10 Nios can just reach 151 Kmph.
Verdict: If one requires better performance in terms of mileage, power, speed and handling Maruti Suzuki swift is the better option.
Looks
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is newer than Maruti Suzuki Swift and looks sportier than swift. The Swift is bigger than Grand i10 Nios. The Grand i10 Nios has got cascading grille at the front with boomerang-shaped DRLS which adds to the looks of Grand i10 Nios. All in all the overall appearance of Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is sportier compared to Swift.
So for looks, Grand i10 Nios is the clear winner for those who love sporty looks.
Features
In terms of features both cars same kind of features like
- Touchscreen infotainment system
- Digital and analog instrument cluster
- Automatic climate control
- Height adjustable driver seats
But some features like rear AC vents, wireless charging pad and rear-view monitor on 8-inch central display can be found on Grand i10 Nios only.
